If You Give a Mouse a Cookie...

Students read the book "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" and "If You Take a Mouse to School" by Laura Numeroff. They were then asked to write their own version of the one of the books. They went through the writing process of making a rough draft, editing, making a final copy, illustrating, and then finally publishing. The students published their books two ways, online and in a hard copy. To place the book online the students' final copy and illustrations were scanned to my computer and then the images were upload to Issuu.

Zoo Tycoon

Students spent time learning and researching several types of ecosystems. They then used the information and they gathered to create zoo exhibits. They created an exhibit in Microsoft's Zoo Tycoon for each ecosystem, desert, forest, ocean, arctic, savanna, and grassland. Once students had created their zoos they then took screen shots of their exhibit and put them into PowerPoint along with the information that they researched on their ecosystem.

GPS

The 3rd graders started the beginning of our life cycle unit by going on a GPS scavenger hunt. Students looked for clues that were hidden around town telling them what life cycle they were looking for. Once the students found all 4 clues they were to return to the home base and put together their clues to guess their mystery life cycle.

Students use bee-bots in the classroom to match words with definitions, create stories from maps, match multiplication and subtraction problems, and explore countries on map.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Students learned about the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement. We then made a timeline of Martin Luther King Jr.'s life on timetoast.

Snowflake Poems

Students made 3-D snowflakes to hang in the elementary hallway. We then used the laptops to make acrostic poems for the word SNOWFLAKE.

Sequencing "The Mysterious Giant of Barletta"
